Mrs. Lowe, was my science teacher. We had a very small school, and she taught science for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade. One day she placed a pencil on the lab desk and announced “this pencil has potential energy”.
Then, she took her hand and rolled the pencil on the counter. “Now,” she said, “this pencil has kinetic energy.” She went onto explain the First Law of Thermodynamics.
The First Law of Thermodynamics, also known as the Law of Conservation of Energy, states that energy cannot be created or destroyed; it can only be transformed from one form to another.
I had no idea why at the time, but I could not stop thinking about this law of thermodynamics. Only years later, did I read an article from CERN (European Council for Nuclear Research). They were explaining the Big Bang Theory.
“In this first moment, all the energy of the universe was one. The forces of nature were unified, and the energy was pure and perfect. But this perfection could not last. In a fraction of a second, the symmetry broke, and the energy exploded outward. This was the Big Bang.” — CERN, Big Bang AR app
For me, this was the moment: This was exactly when I realized what God had been trying to teach me all those years ago.
First of all, how can something pure and perfect explode? Perfect means without flaw, without imperfection. How can something perfect result in chaos? It can’t. It simply cannot. Anything that explodes, explodes because of an instability. Anything that explodes does so because of an inherent instability—just like gasoline detonating under pressure. But pure, perfect energy shouldn’t have an instability. It couldn’t just randomly break. It required an action. A decision.
But here’s where it became this ‘aha’ moment for me. If energy cannot be created or destroyed, the only explanation for that is energy exists outside of time. If it cannot be created, that means it has no beginning. If it cannot be destroyed, that means it has no ending. Anything in this dimension of matter has a beginning and an ending. Because anything in this dimension is subject to time.
So let me give you what I have surmised about the Universe. God is that energy, and he exists outside of time. So in CERN’s example, let’s alter it just a little bit.
Before the Universe began there was energy. And this energy was pure and perfect. This energy also had a consciousness. This energy made a decision to create a matter universe, and decided to govern this universe with time. And when God spoke this universe into existence, the sheer power of that energy still reverberates throughout the universe. And that reverberation is known as the Big Bang.
I love it when science proves the Bible to be true, and even more so when they don’t even realize what they have done. I once saw a billboard: “There is no reality, all is perception”.
So from that we can see that just a little different perception in what science calls reality can prove what the Bible says is true.
