Five People Have Been Arrested in Austin When a Woman is Found Handcuffed in the Yard
In one of the most bizarre cases I personally have ever heard, a woman was found chained and handcuffed in the back yard of a Austin Texas home. The woman, who’s name has not been released, remains in the hospital at the time of this article being treated for her injuries. Police reported finding her handcuffed to a piece of exercise equipment, naked from the waist down. Here are the details:
Five people were arrested after a woman was found handcuffed and chained to exercise equipment outside a trailer home at 1700 Bitter Creek Drive in Southeast Austin. The woman had reportedly been held captive, abused, starved, and shot with BB guns for several months. The woman was described as showing “physical distress and visible injuries.” Reports say she was naked from the waist down when found, handcuffed to a punching bag stand wedged in a fence gate. There are unconfirmed reports that the woman might be suffering from some sort of mental disability. Shockingly, one report even states there was a bb left in her eye from a previous attack.
The Suspects:
Based on names and mugshots released by police, the suspects appear to be Hispanic/Latino (Garcia, Castro, Carney) and possibly Anglo (Lefevers). Exact ethnic backgrounds have not been officially released by authorities.
- Michelle Garcia, 51 (allegedly the grandmother)
- Crystal Garcia, 21 (daughter of Michelle Garcia)
- Mache Carney, 32 (daughter of Michelle Garcia; homeowner)
- Juan Pablo Castro, 30 (Mache Carney’s husband)
- Maynard Lefevers, 21 (family friend)
- All suspects were charged with first-degree aggravated kidnapping, aggravated assault, injury to an elderly or disabled person, and unlawful restraint.
The alleged ringleader (Michelle Garcia) claimed she restrained the victim “because of her behavior,” though other statements say the group simply stopped liking her and then began restraining her. No detailed, clear motive is cited beyond these explanations. However during his interview Castro admitted to purchasing a BB gun, and chasing the woman around the back yard, shooting her, apparently for no other reason than recreation. He told police officers, “I f**king hate her.”
There is currently no public information available regarding the immigration status of any of the suspects. All suspects have court-appointed attorneys and are being held on high bail; no reports mention ICE involvement or immigration holds.
The arrest affidavit gives conflicting motives: Michelle Garcia (suspect) told officers she restrained the victim because she’d “go to the bathroom in view of neighbors.” Another suspect claimed it was due to theft and neighbors’ complaints. The victim herself stated she was restrained simply so she couldn’t leave. These documents show the “why” is vague and shifting—there’s not a single clear criminal motive, just a mixture of neglect, cruelty, and possible attempts at discipline.
Extra Details
- Two suspects (Carney and Michelle Garcia) are listed as homeowners of the property.
- Bail for each suspect is $305,000; severe conditions prohibit contact with the victim and co-defendants, possession of firearms, or BB guns.
- The case is ongoing; no further details, including complete motive or background, have been released.
- Three young children were also found living at the home and placed in the care of Child Protective Services.
Is this just a case of “evil people”?:
The facts reported so far and visible in police documents suggest:
- Multiple suspects, all apparently known to the victim, kept her captive and abused her over several months.
- Different suspects gave varying, sometimes minor reasons for her restraint; police documents show shifting rationales rather than a clear criminal plot.
- The act itself (starvation, injury, chaining, public humiliation) points to severe neglect and cruelty rather than a calculated criminal enterprise.
The Victim:
Of course, there is little information about the victim in this case, as authorities work to protect her privacy during this horrendous time in her life. We do know some things however. According to one of the suspects, the woman was only fed once a day because, according to Michelle, “she was chunky”. At one time, they considered her a friend but again, according to the suspects, “they had become tired of her.”
Reactions:
Obviously, people are very shocked and outraged over this horrendous act of cruelty. To think that a person who possibly suffers from some sort of disability would be subject to such horrific torture is beyond the pale of civility. And for me personally, there are few things I struggle harder with than my feelings for a bully. This idea that they would treat this woman in such a way simply because she was unable to prevent it, literally outrages me.
Public reaction to this case has been overwhelmingly one of horror, anger, and sympathy for the victim:
- News comment sections and social media posts describe the suspects’ alleged actions as “monstrous,” “evil,” and “inhumane,” with many expressing disbelief that such cruelty could take place among acquaintances or relatives.
- Comments and posts emphasize relief that the victim was rescued, with strong praise for law enforcement and emergency responders.
- Many call for severe punishment for all of the suspects, especially in light of the presence of young children in the home and the duration/extent of the abuse.
My Motives In this Article:
My article is to highlight the extreme depravity that occurs in this country as a direct result of apathy, hatred, and lack of a conscience toward their fellow man. I did highlight the ethnicity of the people involved, because these are things we ask when we’re trying to determine some sort of motivation for such inexcusable behavior. Yes, I did try to determine the immigration status of the suspects, because that’s the first thing people wonder in their minds whether they admit it or not. The truth is this: If these were white people, or American Indians (I’m part Indian myself) I would be ashamed of those people who committed such atrocities.
This woman is first and foremost a human being. Contrary to popular belief, every single individual on this planet was created for one thing: To become part of God’s family. He really looks at us like that. He created man because he wanted a family. And to do such horrible things to one another is simply unacceptable.
So what does the Bible Say?
The Bible has much, much to say on this subject. This ticks so many boxes of Bible prophecy, I simply don’t know where to start. But let me summarize: First of all, the Bible tells us in the last days, people will become ‘without natural affection’. For years, many Bible scholars considered it a reference to homosexuality. I beg to disagree. It is natural for a person to feel sympathy for a disabled person. But here we have an entire family, who are abusing someone because of their disability. The Bible also talks about the loss of a person’s conscience: that small voice inside us that tells us right from wrong. The Bible says in the last days, conscience will be ‘seared as with a hot iron’.
And of course the Bible also talks about love growing cold. In the last days, man’s love for their fellow man grows cold. This needs no explanation. The Bible in multiple places describes a litany of conditions that affect people. It says in the last days people will simply not even acknowledge God or even give him thanks. As a result they will become completely evil in every aspect of their being.
The Scripture:
I have made the decision to use some of the more plain translations, because I want the largest audience possible to read this in plain language as a witness to the truth of the Bible.
1 You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2 For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3 They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. – 2 Timothy 3:1-4 New Living Translation
28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind to do what ought not to be done. 29 They were filled with all manner of unrighteousness, evil, covetousness, malice. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, maliciousness. They are gossips, 30 slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, 31 foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32 Though they know God’s righteous decree that those who practice such things deserve to die, they not only do them but give approval to those who practice them. – Romans 1:28-32 English Standard Version
Because lawlessness is increased, most people’s love will grow cold. – Matthew 24:12 New American Standard Bible
7 Their feet run to do evil, and they rush to commit murder. They think only about sinning. Misery and destruction always follow them. 8 They don’t know where to find peace or what it means to be just and good. They have mapped out crooked roads,
and no one who follows them knows a moment’s peace. – Isaiah 59:7-8 New Living Translation
And I could go on. Many many more verses describe the lasts days, and those who deny this are simply dismissing the truth so that they can remain in their sin. As a dear Bible Teacher of mine, Chuck Missler once said, “You are never further from the truth than when you think you already have it.”
