Once again, history repeats itself. It might interest you to know that more West Virginians died in Vietnam than from any other state. West Virginia had the highest casualty rate of any state during the Vietnam War.
I was born in 1963. When I was about 9 or 10 I remember my mom telling me she wished I’d been born a girl. When I asked her why, she said she was afraid that when I turned 18, I’d be sent to Vietnam.
If you would have told me a month ago, that the death of a complete stranger would have hurt me so badly, I wouldn’t have believed you. But I was born in West Virginia, and I lived my first 40 years there. When I moved to Kentucky, I moved a grand total of 5 miles. The house is long since gone, destroyed in one of the many floods, but the land where I came home from the hospital is just across the border.
So here we have a very familiar pattern repeating itself. Once again, West Virginians are being asked to give their lives for a group of people who hate them. As I was reminded just a few minutes ago, only 17% of residents in Washington, D.C., wants the National Guard there. Well Mr. and Mrs. 83% let me tell you something. THE MAJORITY IS OFTEN WRONG!!! OFTEN. Ask 1920’s Germany. I don’t agree on everything Donald Trump does, in fact, lately I have been pretty put out with his brazen attitude. But one thing I’ve noticed about him: He does the right thing whether it’s popular or not. And when a city like D.C., has the fourth highest murder rate in the nation, the right thing is to put a stop to violent crime, regardless of if the 83% of fools want it done or not.
