How The Bible’s Scenario Mirrors Today’s News
15 Jan. 2026: Today, major outlets report that President Trump is hesitating to “pull the trigger” on his promise to protect the people of Iran from the Islamic regime, even as that regime struggles to keep control amid nationwide protests. Some reports suggest the key obstacle is Turkey, whose leaders have warned they oppose any foreign military intervention in Iran and consider the Islamic Republic’s stability a matter of vital national interest—a message that strongly implies Ankara could react against any attempt to overthrow Tehran’s rulers. And the elephant in the room: Could this all lead to nuclear war?
At the same time, emerging figures from inside Iran suggest that the true number of protesters killed may far exceed official counts, with human-rights sources confirming several thousand deaths and some activist estimates, based on hospital and morgue reports during the blackout, fearing a toll of at least 12,000 and possibly far higher.
And to throw even more turmoil into the mix, members of Congress—including some Republicans—are balking at involving the U.S. military in yet another strike on Iran, warning of deeper regional instability and questioning whether this is America’s war to fight. A recent poll suggests that 70% of Americans do not support military action in Iran, despite the public pleas for help leaked from Iran even though the Internet has been shut down. All of this looks like a pot on the stove, filled to the brim and starting to boil over.
The Case For Ezekiel 38
In the last days, Ezekiel chapter 38 sketches a scenario that looks eerily similar to what is now forming around Israel. While many teachers have focused on Russia as “Gog of the land of Magog,” the prophecy also mentions “Beth‑togarmah from the far north” alongside Meshech, Tubal, and Gomer—names that many scholars tie to regions in what is now modern‑day Turkey. Persia is even more straightforward; virtually everyone agrees it points to today’s Iran. Other names in the list—Put, Cush, Gomer—are often mapped to North Africa and surrounding areas that are now heavily Islamic, leaving plenty of space for the various terror movements and proxy militias that ring Israel.
Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal: 4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. 7 Be thou prepared, and prepare for thyself, thou, and all thy company that are assembled unto thee, and be thou a guard unto them.
8 After many days thou shalt be visited: in the latter years thou shalt come into the land that is brought back from the sword, and is gathered out of many people, against the mountains of Israel, which have been always waste: but it is brought forth out of the nations, and they shall dwell safely all of them. 9 Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. – Ezekiel 38:2-9 KJV
Let’s look at the phrase “put a hook in your jaws”: while some may think of fishing, this reference is more gruesome. In ancient Near Eastern warfare, a “hook in the jaws” refers to the practice of leading captured enemies or conquered kings in humiliating processions. Victorious kings would literally put hooks through the jaws or noses of defeated rulers and lead them like animals.
So this is God’s way of describing how He is going to force them out to war, only to defeat them. God leads them like a hook in their jaws to the battle rather than away from it. The idea here is that this is going to be something that they are not believing this to be a major war, they believe they are going to have an easy victory; little do they know that God himself will be waiting.
Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. – Ezekiel 38:10-12 KJV
Now, people may point out that there are still hostilities in Israel. However notice closely what v8 says, “brought back from the sword”. That’s exactly the state of Israel today. Hamas is currently playing nice for now, under pressure of surrounding Arab countries, and pressure from the Palestinian people themselves, because they want to see progress, just like the rest of us.
We definitely see an overwhelming sized Army that believes it has more than enough; and soon not only are they feeling they can defeat the Israeli Army, but puffed up with pride to think they are going to plunder the nation as well.
Could This Be the Start of the War?
Israel is almost always the center part of Bible prophecy, especially in the Old Testament. And in this day and time, Arab nations could view an attack on Iran asan opening strike of Jihad. While Muslims are quick to point out the meaning of Jihad is simply ‘struggle’, it is widely recognized that Jihad is actually a promise of a coming ‘holy war’. While this may be the beginning of an Islamic attack on Israel, God promises he will be the one who fights the battle.
18 But on that day, the day that Gog shall come against the land of Israel, declares the Lord GOD, my wrath will be roused in my anger. 19 For in my jealousy and in my blazing wrath I declare, On that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel. 20 The fish of the sea and the birds of the heavens and the beasts of the field and all creeping things that creep on the ground, and all the people who are on the face of the earth, shall quake at my presence. And the mountains shall be thrown down, and the cliffs shall fall, and every wall shall tumble to the ground.
21 I will summon a sword against Gog on all my mountains, declares the Lord GOD. Every man’s sword will be against his brother. 22 With pestilence and bloodshed I will enter into judgment with him, and I will rain upon him and his hordes and the many peoples who are with him torrential rains and hailstones, fire and sulfur. 23 So I will show my greatness and my holiness and make myself known in the eyes of many nations. Then they will know that I am the LORD. – Ezekiel 38:18-23 ESV
God makes this point all throughout the book of Ezekiel. “Then you will know I am the Lord”. In the book of Ezekiel God is going out of his way to prove to Israel who he is. And this is his goal in the last days, to bring as many to redemption, Jew and Gentile alike. God is eager to prove his existence to anyone who will notice. God will win this war with little doubt as to who was responsible.
There are many, many ways this could turn out to be the fulfillment of Bible prophecy. Israel, for example, could carry out is promise to squash any attack it feels is imminent. But there is one part of this prophecy that is even more frightening: Ezekiel chapter 39.
Ezekiel 39: Clean-up After a Nuclear War
One of the most chilling parts of the Bible is without a doubt Ezekiel 39:
1 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will give unto Gog a place there of graves in Israel, the valley of the passengers on the east of the sea: and it shall stop the noses of the passengers: and there shall they bury Gog and all his multitude: and they shall call it The valley of Hamongog. 12 And seven months shall the house of Israel be burying of them, that they may cleanse the land. 13 Yea, all the people of the land shall bury them; and it shall be to them a renown the day that I shall be glorified, saith the Lord GOD. 14 And they shall sever out men of continual employment, passing through the land to bury with the passengers those that remain upon the face of the earth, to cleanse it: after the end of seven months shall they search. 15 And the passengers that pass through the land, when any seeth a man’s bone, then shall he set up a sign by it, till the buriers have buried it in the valley of Hamongog. 16 And also the name of the city shall be Hamonah. Thus shall they cleanse the land. – Ezekiel 39:11-16 KJV
What kind of battlefield cleanup requires a seven-month waiting period before anyone can even enter the area? First they have to wait seven months before they can even enter the land, “after the end of seven months”. The stench of the dead blocks the noses of those who live in the area, “it shall stop the nose of the passengers”.
Radiation decay period – Most battlefield radiation from tactical nuclear weapons decays significantly in 6-7 months. This waiting period would be absolutely necessary before entering the area.
After seven months, waiting for the contamination decay, they hire professionals to clean up the area, “..sever out men of continual employment”.
Professional hazmat teams – After the decay period, specialized crews with protective equipment could safely enter.
Hamonah, and Hamongog is east of the Dead Sea, downwind from Israel, or “the valley of the passengers east of the sea”. Finally, if a citizen comes upon a bone that was missed, he is not to touch it! Instead, the finder puts a marker and the professionals come to clear it away.
- The “no touching” protocol – Even after 7 months, remaining contamination requires specialists.
- The urgency of marking but not moving – Citizens can mark from a distance, but only trained professionals handle the remains.
Many military professionals say this mirrors the steps used to clean up after a nuclear accident of some sort.
So, do the enemies of Israel attack with tactical nuclear weapons? The Bible up to this very day, has been 100% right on every single prophecy. I see no reason to doubt it now.
The Question is, Are You Ready?
Everything I’ve written so far leads to this question: Are you ready for eternity? You’ve known it all your life, there is a part of you down deep inside that screams eternity. You know this life isn’t all there is. You’ve denied it, you’ve joked and poked fun of it, but you know the truth. Now the question is, the time is here: Do you want to be ready? If you’re going to heaven, you’re going to do it God’s way, not your own way, not my way, but God’s way. Jesus put it straight forward: “No man comes to the father except by me”.
So what do you have to do? This is the Good News, or the Gospel! Everything has already been done for you, except your humility and your surrender. You can’t save yourself: No amount of good works is enough for God. But he knew you couldn’t do it on your own, so He made a way for you. Your sins are already forgiven: but God won’t force anyone to follow him. You have a choice: You can live your life for this present world, and indulge in everything it has to offer you. Or you can choose God.
Getting saved is about the easiest thing you’ve ever done. All it requires is a firm decision, a measure of faith, and a confession:
that if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved; 10 for with the heart a person believes, resulting in righteousness, and with the mouth he confesses, resulting in salvation. – Romans 10:9-10 NASB
