The Chaos of the Middle East Explained
Any of us who have been keeping an eye on the war in Iran must truly be in amazement. Iran has done some of the strangest things, such as hitting other Arab nations with rockets; and making an enemy of every nation that could potentially be an ally. For the average person, Iran’s behavior suggests a very unstable government.
Iran’s actions are the result of a government on the edge of collapse: and it could turn out to be the very indication spoken of in the book of Ezekiel.
1 And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, 2 Son of man, set thy face against Gog, the land of Magog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal, and prophesy against him, 3 And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:
4 And I will turn thee back, and put hooks into thy jaws, and I will bring thee forth, and all thine army, horses and horsemen, all of them clothed with all sorts of armour, even a great company with bucklers and shields, all of them handling swords: 5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya with them; all of them with shield and helmet: 6 Gomer, and all his bands; the house of Togarmah of the north quarters, and all his bands: and many people with thee. Ezekiel 38:1-6
It is important to slow down for a moment, and take a close look at the names listed here, and make some connections to modern times. For years, even decades, most people have thought of Gog and Magog as Russia. In fact for years, I did the same thing. Now I never took the time to research this myself, I relied on other research to come to the same conclusions. However, with a fresh look at these names and historical contexts let’s see if we can determine who Gog and Magog really is.
1. The Scythian Connection (The “Magogites”)
The most famous ancient historian, Flavius Josephus (writing in the 1st Century), was very blunt about this. He wrote:
“Magog founded those that from him were named Magogites, but who are by the Greeks called Scythians.”
- Who were the Scythians? They were a fierce, nomadic people who lived in the regions around the Black Sea and the Caucasus Mountains—regions that comprise Northern and Eastern Turkey.
- The “First Settler” logic: Just like today, Magog was the patriarch of these tribes. The Greeks even had a name for the region in Northern Turkey: “Magogia.”
2. The “Gog” and “Gyges” Connection (The Smoking Gun)
If Magog is the land, who is the leader, Gog? Many scholars have found a “smoking gun” in the ancient records of the Lydian Kingdom (located in Western Turkey).
- The King: There was a famous, powerful king of Lydia named Gyges.
- The Name: In the Assyrian court records from that time, he is called “Gugu.” * The Land: His kingdom, Lydia, was the dominant power in Asia Minor (Turkey).
When Ezekiel writes about “Gog of the land of Magog,” he is likely using the title of the most powerful ruler known to be in that “Northern” region—a ruler from the Anatolian plateau (Turkey).
“And say, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I am against thee, O Gog, the chief prince of Meshech and Tubal:” Obviously Gog is a being. Whether a physical human, demonic entity or some other type of creation, Gog is definitely not a place. So it becomes prudent for us to research Meshech and Tubal.
1. Meshech: Anatolia (Turkey) vs. Moscow
- The Traditional View (Moscow): Older commentaries linked Meshech phonetically to Moscow.
- The Archaeological Reality (Turkey): We now have clear records from the Assyrians and Greeks identifying a people called the Mushki (Meshech). These people lived in Central and Western Anatolia (modern-day Turkey). They were a powerful Highland tribe that eventually migrated toward the Black Sea area. Almost all modern historians agree that Meshech’s ancient footprint is in the heart of Turkey.
2. Tubal: Anatolia (Turkey) vs. Tobolsk
- The Traditional View (Tobolsk): Phonetically linked to the Russian city of Tobolsk in Siberia.
- The Archaeological Reality (Turkey): Ancient records (Assyrian “Tabal”) place these people directly alongside the Mushki in Central and Eastern Anatolia (Turkey). They were famous for their metalwork and horses—the very things Ezekiel 27 mentions them trading.
Summary of the “Fresh Look” Equivalents
If you follow the archaeological evidence rather than just phonetic similarities, the “North” of Ezekiel 38 looks like this:
| Ancient Name | Traditional View | Modern Scholarship View |
| Magog | Central Asia / Russia | Turkey / Asia Minor |
| Meshech | Moscow | Central/Western Turkey |
| Tubal | Tobolsk (Siberia) | Eastern Turkey |
| Togarmah | Armenia / Turkic States | Eastern Turkey |
There can be little doubt that at the very least, there needs to be another look at Ezekiel 38 among modern Bible Scholars. The names Meshech and Tubal are first found in the book of Genesis, in fact this is where we get our first clue of where Meshech and Tubal might be.
It All Starts with Noah
Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. 2 The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. – Genesis 10:1-2 KJV
Now to this day, people who believe in Noah’s Ark believe that somewhere in Turkey was the landing site of the Ark. The Bible tells us ‘the mountains of Ararat’ and indeed there is a mountain of Ararat still named the same in Turkey. This is a solid indication of what Ezekiel is alluding to. It is not hard at all to think about the grandchildren of Noah going off on their own, finding pieces of suitable land, and raising their own families. Over a period of time, the land would actually be named after the settler of that land. The practice is still kept up today. All over America, there are cities and counties named after the first settlers of the area..
While a few anecdotal reasonings might not be considered proof, but pair it up with the current world situation, and Ezekiel 38 starts showing signs of life.
Ezekiel 38’s Motives
What we need to make a case is about the motives of Gog and the actions caused by it. We see that Gog is very reluctant to do something, in fact, God calls it ‘putting a hook in his jaw’. While this is definitely not a fishing reference, it is the same kind of metaphor. Turkey being reeled into a situation that they do not want to take part of. For now, Turkey is doing exactly this: Trying not to get embroiled into this mess in Iran. Even though Iran has attacked them, they are using words at this point to express their displeasure.
But if the country of Iran become completely unstable, it might just be Turkey’s influence and presence that would bring back the calmness needed for stability. Right now, many Iranians want to be free. That is their hope; to throw off these chains of Islam and just go back to what they were 47 years ago. A shining jewel in the middle of the darkness of Islam. A place where Westerners flocked to for vacations, bringing their money and their influence. There was a time when Iran had a very progressive society, and that is what they want again.
However, this is unacceptable to many Muslim nations. While they may not be voicing the opinions at the moment, they are not happy seeing Iran go back to a secular society where other religions are tolerated and no religion is promoted. There is a thought among Muslims that once a nation has been taken for Allah, it permanently becomes Muslim, and it is a disgrace to lose it. The are order to fight and retake the land. And in the instance of Israel, for the Jewish people to have taken land from Allah is a double disgrace: and whether they will say it out loud or not, they all have a unified goal: Rid the Jewish infestation from Palestine.
This is yet another example of how the Bible has come true yet again. Despite the centuries long hatred Muslims have had for the Jews, somehow they managed to land right back in their ancient homeland. I personally don’t see how anyone can look at this tremendous event, and still think it is just one big coincidence. On the other hand, if people are believers of evolution, their entire existence is based on a long series of impossible coincidences.
It could very well a perfect ‘temporary’ solution: Turkey will come in and give the area stability; they will agree to allow the people to ‘shape their own destiny’ but in the framework of a culture that still relies heavily on Muslim tradition. This is not what the Iranian people want, but it sure beats what they’ve had for the last 47 years, so it might not be that hard of a sell. For all the rhetoric about the prince of Iran, He is the Crown Prince of Iran and, the grandson of the dynasty’s founder, Reza Shah Pahlavi (and the son of the last Shah, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi).
Now, whether this person has a rightful claim to Iran is for someone other than me to figure out: but let’s keep in mind, this is one man. No matter how noble, or credible his claim, someone has to have access to an army, there has to be boots on the ground to stop the violence and restore order. Now, whether Prince Pahlavi will concede this and become part of some coalition government in Iran with Turkey, if Ezekiel 38 is right, then Turkey could very well find itself being asked, reluctantly, to bring stability back to Iran.
“And Thou Shalt Think an Evil Thought”
Thus saith the Lord GOD; It shall also come to pass, that at the same time shall things come into thy mind, and thou shalt think an evil thought: 11 And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land. – Ezekiel 38:10-12 KJV
My mother would always chastise me with a quote whenever I started out to do something, but through neglect or disobedience, only ended in disaster:
“The road to hell is paved with good intentions”
And this is what might possibly happen to Turkey. Already Turkey tried to flex its muscle some time ago with America by saying they would be much less than happy with anything other than a Muslim government in Iran. But as President Trump is so often doing, he charged ahead without giving the Turkish position any thought. But now, let’s say that Turkey does find itself in a position of power as the leading government of Iran. And suddenly an evil thought comes to mind?
Whatever the thinking process might be, the Bible says Turkey will get an evil thought to turn its attentions on Israel.
And thou shalt say, I will go up to the land of unwalled villages; I will go to them that are at rest, that dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates, 12 To take a spoil, and to take a prey; to turn thine hand upon the desolate places that are now inhabited, and upon the people that are gathered out of the nations, which have gotten cattle and goods, that dwell in the midst of the land.
This suggests that Israel is caught completely by surprise. They are feeling at rest, they believe their enemies are vanquished; only to hear the surprising air attack. That’s right; the Bible predicts the first part of this will be an airstrike:
Thou shalt ascend and come like a storm, thou shalt be like a cloud to cover the land, thou, and all thy bands, and many people with thee. – Ezekiel 38:9 KJV
In fact, the same sentiment is repeated in v. 16 “And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land;” clearly, God is making a point here. At least part of this attack will be from the air.
Yet Another Odd Coincidence
Now, as I previously stated, Iran made the very poor choice to begin targeting the surrounding Arab nations. But let’s take another look at Ezekiel 38 and compare it with the nations Iran has targeted:
Nations Iran Has Attacked (Last 7 Days)
Iran’s strategy has focused on striking countries that host U.S. military assets or are seen as allies of the West. In the last week, Iranian missiles and drones have hit:
- United Arab Emirates (UAE): Strikes on Dubai International Airport and the Jebel Ali port.
- Bahrain: Multiple drones targeted the capital, Manama, and luxury hotels.
- Saudi Arabia: Drone attacks on the Ras Tanura oil refinery.
- Kuwait: Missile strikes on civilian infrastructure and airports.
- Oman: Port facilities in Duqm were hit by drones.
- Qatar & Jordan: Retaliatory strikes aimed at U.S. bases within these borders.
- Iraq (Kurdistan Region): Attacks on Erbil, targeting both military and civilian sites.
- Azerbaijan: Border strikes and infrastructure damage.
- Turkey: While Turkey is a NATO member, Iran has reportedly launched fire over its borders, targeting areas where Western assets are stationed.
The odd thing is using this list here and researching them throughout history, most of them would fall under the heading of Sheba and Dedan:
- United Arab Emirates
- Bahrain
- Saudi Arabia
- Kuwait
- Oman
This brings us to Beth-Torgarmah: In Hebrew, Beth means “House.” So, Ezekiel isn’t just talking about a person; he is talking about the “House (or Dynasty) of Togarmah.” As noted earlier, Togarmah was a grandson of Noah (the son of Gomer, who was the son of Japheth).
This region is the “hinge” between Turkey and Syria. If you look at the news from this past week (March 7, 2026), this is exactly where the friction is highest:
- The Military Hub: Modern-day Southeastern Turkey (the land of Togarmah) is home to major military installations, including Incirlik Air Base.
- The Conflict Zone: This is the area where Turkey has been launching its “buffer zone” operations into Northern Syria. When Iran’s missiles flew toward Turkey this week, they passed right over the ancient territory of Beth-Togarmah.
- The “Hooks in Jaws” Connection: If Turkey is “pulled” into a full-scale war, it will be because of the chaos in this specific region. The “House of Togarmah” acts as the northern anchor for the entire coalition.
There can be no question at this point that history was written in advance and any person who would simply take the time to read the Bible and research what it says can play a simple game of connect the dots to see how these last few prophecies line up. This is not speculation, this is looking at the historical records and Biblical narrative. We can clearly see from today’s headlines that Turkey is becoming a key part of these times in which we live.
And the saddest part of all is this: If you are reading this, consider yourself one of the few people on earth who understand this. Not because I’m so great, or I’m so wise, but because no one, not even the so-called “Watchmen” has taken time to dive into the teaching of the Bible. Unfortunately, they get their information from someone else, not their own research. I would strongly encourage you to stay away from these people!
Right now, there is a popular teaching concerning Purim. There are videos online mentioning the “Purim Prophecy”. There is no Purim prophecy in the Bible. The Bible tells us specifically to stay away from these.
Neither give heed to fables and endless genealogies, which minister questions, rather than godly edifying which is in faith: so do. – 1 Timothy 1:4 KJV
In Conclusion:
Could the prophesied Ezekiel 38 war start tomorrow? With God, all things are possible, but not likely. But in the next month, to 3 months, I believe it will become necessary for some type of military force to take control of the country and put an end to the IRGC once and for all, restore the peace and act as an interim government. Is that going to be Turkey? Who knows, but for right now, as a member of NATO, Turkey represents the perfect bridge between the formerly oppressed Iranian nation and something that can thread the needle between western thoughts and ideas and Islam.
But whatever the outcome for the Ezekiel 38 war, it has been prophesied for over 2,500 years and just like all Bible prophecy, it will come to pass. And forgive me, but it doesn’t need you to believe it. It will happen with or without your consent.
